Eco-friendly and far more elegant than a crumpled paper tissue, it is time to reinstate the cotton or silk hankie at the centre of things – in your pocket or handbag, or up your sleeve.
Curated by London Printworks’ current Artist in Residence Sophie Herxheimer, this exhibition showcases some of the brilliantly creative, humorous and colourful creations received by open submission. Handkerchiefs from students, illustrators, poets, embroiders, designers, artists and enthusiasts celebrate the importance of a square of fabric.
Every submission reveals personal trials, tribulations and celebrations from political protests to the humour of hankie-related puns. The show pulls together the import of handkerchiefs as personal private momentos to keep close to the body.
