12 noon – 10pm
This weekend sees the return to London’s Thames Festival. For the fourth year running, Southwark Bridge will be closed to traffic and transformed by a team of artists into a dining space running the entire length of the bridge. Feast on the Bridge is a spectacular communal harvest supper that aims to encourage poeple to reclaim a public space and share a meal and conversation.
LPT member Sophie Herxheimer is once again providing the tablecloths for the event covered in hand-printed food stories she has painstakenly collected from Londoners (including LPT staff and workshop users!). All 1000 tablecloths were printed at London Printworks Trust, every one a joy to see.
Sophie will also be at her food story collecting stall on the bridge all day from 12 noon till 10pm, so go visit her there to witness a beautiful drawing based on your stories appear in front of your eyes.
This year Brockwell Bake will set up their bakery on the bridge, milling heritage wheat grown on London allotments and baking bread in wood fired ovens. There’s a giant fruit salad toss made from surplus fruit, along with a theatrical food waste game, bicycle-drawn skip chariots and a entertaining display from Magnificent Revolution’s cycle-powered cinema.
So much to do on just one bridge! You can be sure to see London Printworks faces beaming on the bridge this weekend.
